Family Date Night

Dave has been really busy at work this week. He has been gone from before dawn until after dusk. Then he is leaving for a week. Instead of our weekly scheduled date, we went on a family date so that we could all have fun. The weather has been so great that we decided to go miniature golfing. We got Caleb all pumped up about golfing. He kept asking us "what dolphins do?" I am not sure he ever got the entire golf thing - that is even more apparent in the following clips and pics.

Dax just chillin' and watchin' the game.

Caleb is calm and trying to see if he can figure out what Daddy-o is doing.

Caleb has gone wild and crazy and doesn't care one bit about the rules!

Mommy-o and Dax kickin' major bum bum.

Your Mom Called...

We were trying to figure out what to put on our blog and we decided to put random pictures because that is our life.....complete randomness. Although we did wash the car yesterday and I don't know why you all care about that, but there ya go. Did I mention that your mom called yesterday?

The day was perfectly overcast for pictures so I took the boys across the street to a little clearing of grass and we took pictures. This is also Dax's first time successfully riding in the wagon.

Dax was very ready for a nap and I can't help but wonder if he was having trust issues. Caleb does like to get a little crazy when Dax is around.

We haven't taken 2 year old pictures of Caleb for our wall yet so here ya go - I think this is the winner.

Peek-a-boo...I see you. I noticed that I didn't have any cute smiley pics of Caleb lately so I tried to get some and this is what I got. He loves to cooperate.

Poor little Doobs (that is what I call Dax) he was so tired he fell asleep eating lunch and we didn't even notice for several minutes because he is always quiet.

Dax moves about by hopping up and down and bending over until he almost falls. He is so close to crawling if he would just dare take the plunge...oh wait...he often plunges head first into the floor.

FINALLY!! This is the day Dave got his cast off. He is excited to have it off so he can use his hand again and sleep normal. I am excited for him to get it off so he can help change poopy diapers.

I found this costume at a garage sale 2 years ago and it was supposed to be for Caleb back then...who knew he would still love it. Dax is going to wear it this year but that is for a blog in about one month.

Hope you enjoyed the random ride of Kimsey bliss. Please join us next time for the Price is Right. Hopefully we will have great pics of the updates we have done on our home.

Mama Bird feeding the Chick

Caleb didn't really know what sugar was until he was about 18 months. I am a good mother and that was all part of my plan. It is amazing how plans can be completely thrown out the window when a two year old is around. Caleb loves popsicles and we have been working on sharing. How could I stop him from sharing his beloved popsicle with Dax? I couldn't...is it weakness? Perhaps, but that is okay because moments like this make life worth every second.

Splish...Splash

It has been a while since we took bath pictures of the boys. They love the bath and have recently started playing and fighting in the bath. Dax is able to sit up now and loves to splash and play with the plug lever handle thing. Caleb likes to splash water on everything and life is always better for him if the bath has bubbles. Man...these kids are cute!!

Peas for Dessert

We recently had delicious quinoa lasagne for dinner at a friend's house. Caleb was not too excited about eating because he just wanted to play. Finally we got him to eat a few bites of food and off he went to run a muck in our friend's home. The kids all settled back at the table the moment cookies 'n' cream ice cream was brought to the table. Caleb devoured his in moments - asked for more and upon denial ran off to play some more. Dax had been too excited during dinner, due to the amount of kid action, to eat much of his gourmet meal of peas and rice. After ice cream, I sat down with just Dax at the table and he began to eat his food. Moments later Caleb ran up and asked "I have some please". He has asked for Dax's food in the past and spit it out so I warned him that he would have to keep it in his mouth and swallow it. He agreed and I figured he wanted some because he hadn't eaten much for dinner. I put a spoon full in his mouth and got the reaction that I had anticipated and warned him about. As I was scolding him and telling him to keep it in his mouth he spit it out and looked at me with a most shocked face and said "ifecweam?" At this moment, I could not be made at my little two year old for spitting out the peas. I told him he had to keep the food in his mouth but I did not ever tell him what food he was getting and we had just had ice cream so he made an assumption that I was giving Dax his portion. I have had orange juice when I thought it was water and didn't want it but never baby food smashed up peas instead of ice cream. Man, his face was priceless.

Bowling is not a sport

Recently Julie and I went bowling. We bowled 3 games and in the last game I bowled 136 with 4 spares and 2 strikes. You may think "Oh, that is a pretty good game" or you may say "I sure can bowl better than him." What I haven't told you yet is why bowling is not a sport. Skiing is a sport. Wrestling is a sport. Rock climbing is a sport. Bowling is not. Why you may ask is bowling not a sport. My answer, if you can perform equally well in an opposite manner with no practice it doesn't pass the test. I usually bowl in the 130's with my right hand. I bowled the previously mentioned 136 with my left. I doubt I could ski down a mountain on my hands or turn around backwards and pin an opponent. I know I can't climb a rock face upside down but now I know that I can bowl equally well with my left and right hands. Now for the fun part. I was bowling with my left hand because I crushed a Great Dane's head with my right hand or I crushed my right hand with a Great Dane's head which ever you prefer. The family went to the Dog Park last week and a Great Dane attacked Beowulf. It latched onto Beowulf's neck and wouldn't let go. So, with my left hand I pulled back on Beowulf's harness and with my right hand I punched the dog with a hammering motion on the top of the head. That didn't work so I kept doing it harder and harder until I broke my hand. At this point I didn't realize my hand was broken. The Great Dane's owner, a woman of small stature, was screaming at me to "Stop hitting my dog!" I turned and asked her "What do you want me to do?!" My response to her lack of answer (unless you count staring dumbly with her mouth open an answer) and because I noticed my hand hurt a little bit was to start dropping atomic elbows on her dogs head. At this point I still don't think the dog noticed I was there. Another man in the Dog Park began pulling back on the Great Dane's choke chain which combined with my pulling on Beowulf's harness resulted in a strangely funny elastic-like stretching of Beowulf's head. I stopped pulling, took a step back and shin kicked the crap out of the Dane's throat - one time. Finally, it let go. Both dogs walked away as if nothing had ever happened and I took my turn to star dumbly with my mouth open at my right hand. My pinky knuckle had disappeared. I finally managed "Crap, I think I broke my hand." With the evening ruined by the prospect of spending a Saturday night in the ER I made my way home slowly with Julie and the boys trailing behind and Beowulf leading the way. I drove myself to the ER and had almost convinced myself it was "just dislocated" when I saw the x-rays. It turns out I smashed my hand pretty good. So...if you can perform a task equally well using either your right hand or your left with no practice it is not a sport.

The lighting is not very good but if you notice there are only 3 knuckles present and my pinky doesn't line up with the other fingers.

Once again, the lighting doesn't help show the swelling yet but if you compare the right pinky to the other fingers and the left hand you can tell it is pretty bad. Just like me - hard core - born to bring the man down.

This is me on the way to the ER - you can see my excitement, although, yet again, you can barely see the swelling due to the lighting. I swear it looked worse than this...no really...just take my word for it...a normal man would have cried and wouldn't have been able to drive himself to the ER with a stickshift...

After minor surgery, which left 2 pins in my hand and a cast from my fingers to my elbow. We began the 6 week count down (Jeopardy music) and 1 month rehab.

Repent Ye - For the day of the Lord is at hand...

There I sat, on a hot and humid summer day in North Carolina, with my two sons decorating birthday cards for my mom. Slowly the room began to darken and Beowulf whimpered to come in. Within minutes of Beowulf entering the house a drizzle began. Our sweet dog really does not like the rain. The drizzle turned into rain with large gusts of wind. Thunder began to BOOM BOOM BOOM and lightening was SPLAT SPLAT SPLATTING across the sky. 'Pling, pling, pling' was the next noise of the storm - hail was falling in the middle of August. Moments later the sky was dumping buckets of quarter sized ice balls on the ground. I ran to the front of the house to check out another view and BAM! my neighbors tree was in my front yard. No worries, the only casulty is my newly purchased hammock and we are pretty sure we can revive it. The storm stopped as quickly as it started and the sun was shining as if it had not missed a moment. I took Caleb and Dax outside to survey the damage and Caleb said "Oh mommy, tree fall down!!" - "Tree make a mess!!" Caleb was quite distraught over the fallen tree and was not content being outside until the clean up crew arrived with chain saws. He thought that part was awesome.

Moral of the Story: It is hailing buckets of ice in the miserable August heat of North Carolina - all I have to say is ...if you're not ready, you think it's hot now? :)

Yes, Dave has a cast on his hand. Please stay tuned for how, why, and where...
